Special Containment Procedures

All known instances of SCP-7508 are kept in a secure containment locker at Site-303. Once a week, the amount of SCP-7508 instances is to be recounted, once by an automatic coin counter, and then verified by a researcher, to confirm that no SCP-7508 instances have been misplaced or stolen.

Foundation webcrawlers are to continuously search across all internet e-shopping websites for potential SCP-7508 instances, and then automatically purchase them under the guise of a coin-collecting front company. Webcrawlers are to scour medical and police reports, searching for keywords such as 'missing skin', 'dermal damage' and 'symbols' in tandem with each other to search for potential victims of SCP-7508.

Description

Sums of money received based off of pairs of symbols.

SCP-7508 refers to 120 identical instances of American quarter dollar coins. The coins are identical to a non-anomalous coin in weight and chemical composition, with the exception of the letters 'YWTGTHFT' instead of the normal 'LIBERTY' writing on the obverse. Each instance lists the year of production as 1995.

SCP-7508's anomalous ability becomes apparent when it is used to scratch against the skin of an individual. The coin will remove the epidermis with abnormal ease, exposing the underlying tissue without regard for any possible sources of excessive bleeding which may otherwise be present. The skin will flake away in a manner visually identical to the removal of a lottery ticket's opaque layer.

Once an appropriately large patch of skin has been removed via SCP-7508, a sequence of three symbols, each approximately 2 cm in size, is revealed to be printed on the the muscle tissue in black ink. These symbols, whose appearance and combination is entirely random, appear as a pattern of very crudely drawn bells, diamonds, grapes, and the number 7.

After this is done, a variable amount of currency will materialize next to the subject in the form of coins; the amount of the materialized sum appears to depend on the type of sequence obtained. The largest reward can be obtained with a sequence of three number 7s. Smaller sums of money can also be obtained via other combinations of the symbols.

When an SCP-7508 instance is used, it loses its anomalous effects, and another coin must be purchased.

Discovery

The scene of discovery.

The first 60 instances of SCP-7508 were originally discovered in the residence of Quentin Joss in San Diego, California on 09/03/2025.

Joss's body was found laying in the living room of their residence, entirely devoid of skin. The skinless body was entirely covered in symbols of SCP-7508 origin, and was holding an SCP-7508 instance in its hand. Additionally, a pile of 10 SCP-7508 instances which had been smoothed and shaved down, presumably through friction and abrasion, was laying nearby the body.

An investigation revealed that Joss was approx. 120 000 dollars in debt at the time of their death, and had bought the SCP-7508 instances off of an anonymous seller in an online shop. Analysis of the symbols on Joss's body reveals that they should have won around 1200 dollars. Their purchasing history shows that they appear to have used this money solely to buy additional SCP-7508 instances.

Only a small, 10 cm2 patch of skin was left intact on Joss's body. Usage of SCP-7508 on this patch revealed Joss would have won six dollars.
