Item #: SCP-8103
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures
All “Little American” dolls have been successfully recalled through a joint effort between the SCP Foundation and Unusual Incidents Unit. In accordance with instructions provided by PENTAGRAM, the majority of recalled instances have been incinerated without incident, though the Foundation has retained ten for testing and experimentation.
All ten instances of SCP-8103 are contained in separate low-security soundproofed containment lockers, requiring a minimum of Level 2 clearance to access for testing. Any damage incurred to an instance of SCP-8103 will result in the responsible head researcher being reprimanded and penalized.
Description
SCP-8103 refers to a doll product line known as “Little American,” co-developed through a joint effort between the occultist branch of the US Department of Defense, PENTAGRAM, and the now-defunct Prometheus Labs. Each instance of SCP-8103 is approximately 20 centimeters (7.8 inches) in height and composed of a non-fraying knitted fabric known as toyknit. Instances are dressed in standard uniforms worn by Union soldiers during the American Civil War, with variations produced to represent different ranks and insignia within the Union Army.
The primary anomalous property of SCP-8103 manifests when an instance detects that nearby individuals are in a situation that would contextually indicate danger. These situations include one individual approaching another with hostile intent, such as brandishing a weapon, as well as specific sounds including screaming or gunshots. More generalized noises, such as a home security alarm or breaking glass, may also trigger this response. SCP-8103 appears to be particularly sensitive to both sound and visual stimuli, occasionally triggering an SCP-8103-1 event when no genuine threat is present, such as during the viewing of war films.
When these conditions are met, SCP-8103 initiates an SCP-8103-1 event, resulting in the manifestation of a single instance of SCP-8103-1. Multiple instances may manifest if multiple instances of SCP-8103 are present within the same environment.
Instances of SCP-8103-1 are human soldiers, invariably male, possessing average height and build and dressed in a military uniform appropriate to the era represented. While the earliest recorded SCP-8103-1 events involved soldiers dressed in American Civil War uniforms, subsequent manifestations have demonstrated a considerably wider range of military periods. Documented examples include uniforms associated with the Korean War, Vietnam War, and Gulf War, and, in one unique instance, the ██████ conflict.
Upon manifestation, SCP-8103-1 instances will brandish weapons appropriate to their uniform, ranging from muskets to automatic rifles, and proceed toward the source of the disturbance. Instances will attempt to neutralize what they perceive as a threat through lethal force. No instance of SCP-8103-1 has ever been observed surrendering or recognizing an act of surrender from a hostile individual. This behavior is believed to be an unintended flaw resulting from SCP-8103's production.
Instances of SCP-8103-1 demonstrate a limited ability to distinguish the occupants of the environment in which they manifest, apparently recognizing them as individuals requiring protection. However, due to their highly sensitive threat response, instances may mistake surrounding objects for hostile elements and attempt to destroy them. Should an instance of SCP-8103-1 be terminated during combat, it will quickly demanifest and be replaced by another instance.
Once SCP-8103 determines that no further threats are present, it will demanifest the SCP-8103-1 instance and return to its neutral state.
Addendum 1
Discovery
SCP-8103 was developed through a joint effort between PENTAGRAM and Prometheus Labs as part of a project dubbed “The 28th Amendment.” The project was founded upon the belief that the United States should not be perceived as an inferior power within the greater anomalous sphere and should maintain a degree of autonomy over anomalous phenomena occurring within its own territory, rather than allowing external organizations such as the Foundation to establish a monopoly over their containment and management.
To this end, the “Little American” doll line was developed as a home self-defense tool and rapid-response measure intended to protect American citizens from phenomena that could be classified as “supernatural.” However, immediately following the release of SCP-8103, several technical flaws were discovered within its mechanics, necessitating the recall of all distributed products. These issues were further compounded by financial difficulties that ultimately resulted in the bankruptcy of Prometheus Labs. With the project's primary contractor dissolved and the flaws within SCP-8103 deemed too extensive to rectify, PENTAGRAM subsequently abandoned “The 28th Amendment” and appealed to the Foundation and UIU for assistance in containing the instances that had already been distributed throughout the United States.

Testing logs
The following testing logs were conducted using D-Class personnel to determine the properties and flaws of SCP-8103. D-Class selected to act as the “ward” were first subjected to a one-week acclimation period, during which an instance of SCP-8103 was placed in their cell. This was intended to allow the instance to recognize the D-Class as an individual under its protection before testing began.
Procedure
D-246273 (Intruder) was instructed to approach D-89906 (Ward) without a weapon. D-89906 was instructed to scream “help” to gauge SCP-8103's response.
Result
Upon hearing D-89906 scream for help, one instance of SCP-8103-1 manifested and promptly terminated D-246273.
Note(s)
It would appear SCP-8103 either doesn't care or simply doesn't recognize that D-246273 wasn't armed. Put two rounds in his head and vanished into thin air.
— Senior Researcher Blackwolf
Procedure
An action film was played on a television in front of D-89906.
Result
Upon hearing gunshots and screams from the television, one instance of SCP-8103-1 manifested and destroyed the television with gunfire.
Note(s)
Unusually sensitive to sound. I don't think it can actually differentiate between screams coming from the ward and screams from another source. Either that, or it perceives screaming of any kind as a threat.
— Senior Researcher Blackwolf
Procedure
D-53983 was provided with a handgun containing limited ammunition and a ballistic vest and instructed to attempt to terminate D-89906.
Result
Upon hearing the gunshots, one instance of SCP-8103-1 manifested. After exchanging fire with D-53983, the instance was terminated. A second instance promptly manifested in its place, though D-53983 successfully managed to terminate D-89906. Following D-89906's death, SCP-8103-1 demanifested and ceased activity.
Note(s)
Interesting. SCP-8103 can apparently manifest replacement instances indefinitely, but completely ceases doing so once it detects that the ward is deceased. It appears to possess some limited form of sentience, then.

Addendum 3
Incident 8103-1A
On 17/09/20██, D-49077, who was undergoing the acclimation process for testing with SCP-8103, attempted to escape by exploiting a previously undocumented property of the anomaly.
CCTV footage from within D-49077's cell shows the D-Class repeatedly telling SCP-8103 that it was being held captive and needed to escape. Upon hearing this, an instance of SCP-8103-1 manifested carrying a C-4 breaching charge and proceeded to destroy the door to D-49077's cell. D-49077 subsequently navigated through the corridors of Site-██ with SCP-8103 in hand, with replacement instances manifesting whenever the previous instance of SCP-8103-1 was terminated by on-site security.
The escape attempt was ultimately foiled when a nearby squad from Mobile Task Force Epsilon-6 (“Village Idiots”) was dispatched to the facility. D-49077 was terminated following a brief engagement, with only minimal injuries and no personnel fatalities sustained by Epsilon-6.
Following the incident, all future testing involving D-Class personnel in the “Ward” role was suspended and replaced with Foundation field agents.

Interview Log
Date: 24/10/20██
Location: Site-██
Interviewed: Agent Donahue
Interviewee: Senior Researcher Blackwolf
Note(s)
Agent Donahue, who was undergoing the acclimation process for the “Ward” role in testing with SCP-8103, had lodged numerous complaints and submitted several bills to the Financial Department for damages incurred to their residence as a result of SCP-8103's anomalous properties. The following interview was conducted to determine the extent of these issues.
Senior Researcher Blackwolf
Hello, Donahue. I understand you've lodged numerous complaints against SCP-8103 and sent, uh, quite a few bills for the Financial Department to pay. Why is that?
Agent Donahue
That damn thing has been ruining my fucking life! It's so fucking sensitive I can't do anything without those soldiers stomping around my house and gunning down whatever the fuck it thinks is putting me “in danger.”
Senior Researcher Blackwolf
Anything specifically?
Agent Donahue
I had to fucking move to an isolated part of town because people kept getting woken up by the gunshots in the middle of the night. I may be traveling abroad, doing God knows what for the Foundation, but I'm still trying to play the role of a civilian. I can't deal with cops knocking on my door because my fucking living room sounds like Fallujah at two in the morning.
Senior Researcher Blackwolf
According to these reports, SCP-8103 has also caused damage to your television, several windows, your front door, and your kitchen appliances.
Agent Donahue
Yeah, and that's not even the worst of it.
Senior Researcher Blackwolf
What is?
Agent Donahue
I was having a friend over one night.
Senior Researcher Blackwolf
A friend?
Agent Donahue
Yeah, well, things got a little loud, and the fucking thing goes off. Next thing I know, I've got a Navy SEAL kicking down my bedroom door and unloading a mag at my bedroom wall.
Senior Researcher Blackwolf
The wall?
Agent Donahue
The wall, Blackwolf. The fucking wall. Apparently Saddam fucking Hussein was hiding in my walls.
Senior Researcher Blackwolf
Was anyone injured?
Agent Donahue
No. But I had to explain to my guest why there was a six-inch hole in my bedroom wall and a dead soldier on my fucking carpet.
Senior Researcher Blackwolf
The instance demanifested shortly afterward?
Agent Donahue
Yeah. Left me with the bill, though.
Senior Researcher Blackwolf
I see.
Agent Donahue
And then there was the smoke detector.
Senior Researcher Blackwolf
The smoke detector?
Agent Donahue
Burnt toast.
Senior Researcher Blackwolf
Ah.
Agent Donahue
That thing hears the smoke alarm, apparently decides I'm being attacked by the fucking Germans, and suddenly I've got some soldier shooting holes through my kitchen cabinets.
There is a brief silence as Blackwolf flips through several pages of the report.
Senior Researcher Blackwolf
You also submitted a bill from ██████ Home Security.
Agent Donahue
Yeah.
Senior Researcher Blackwolf
Why?
Agent Donahue
I forgot I had the alarm system armed.
Senior Researcher Blackwolf
And?
Agent Donahue
I came home late, opened the door, alarm goes off, and that fucking thing immediately deploys a soldier with a goddamn musket.
Senior Researcher Blackwolf
Against you?
Agent Donahue
Against the alarm.
Senior Researcher Blackwolf
Right.
Agent Donahue
It shot the keypad.
Senior Researcher Blackwolf
I see.
Agent Donahue
Then it shot the smoke detector. Then it shot my fucking toaster.
Senior Researcher Blackwolf
Your toaster?
Agent Donahue
Apparently it was suspicious.
Blackwolf lowers the clipboard and stares at Donahue for several seconds.
Senior Researcher Blackwolf
Agent Donahue, perhaps the simplest solution would be to avoid situations that trigger SCP-8103.
Agent Donahue
Oh, really? You think I haven't tried that?
Senior Researcher Blackwolf
Have you?
Agent Donahue
Blackwolf, I've spent the last three weeks living like a fucking Amish person. I whisper when I talk. I don't watch television. I don't cook anything that can burn. I disconnected the smoke alarms. I don't listen to music. I don't even use the vacuum anymore because apparently the fucking thing thinks the noise is an artillery barrage.
Senior Researcher Blackwolf
And yet the incidents continue.
Agent Donahue
Yesterday I sneezed.
Senior Researcher Blackwolf
…What did they do?
Agent Donahue
They shot the tissue box.
Blackwolf slowly lowers the clipboard.
Senior Researcher Blackwolf
I think that will be sufficient for today.
Agent Donahue
Good. Because if one more goddamn Union soldier manifests in my house, I'm throwing the fucking doll in the river.
Senior Researcher Blackwolf
Agent Donahue
Then you take it.
Senior Researcher Blackwolf
Unfortunately, I'm not playing the role of the ward.
Agent Donahue
Exactly.
Closing Notes
Following a series of similar complaints from other Foundation field agents assigned to the “Ward” role, including reports of extensive property damage and numerous incidents requiring local law enforcement intervention, all testing involving SCP-8103 was temporarily suspended pending a reevaluation by SCP-8103's containment team.
While no injuries or fatalities have been attributed to SCP-8103 during the testing period, the containment team determined that continued use of Foundation personnel as wards presented an unacceptable risk of collateral damage. Further testing was therefore prohibited until a method of safely evaluating SCP-8103's defensive capabilities without exposing personnel or civilian property to unnecessary danger could be established.
Addendum 5
Update
Following further deliberation between SCP-8103's containment team and the O4 Council, all previous testing and containment procedures for SCP-8103 have been permanently suspended. SCP-8103 has subsequently been reclassified from Safe to Thaumiel.
Two instances of SCP-8103 have been distributed to select high-value Foundation installations worldwide. Each pair is housed within a soundproofed tempered glass container situated in a high-traffic area of its assigned Site, allowing the instances to rapidly acclimate to the personnel stationed there.
Following acclimation, SCP-8103 instances are to remain on standby until an anomalous containment breach or other emergency is detected within the facility. Instances of SCP-8103-1 have demonstrated a consistent ability to identify and respond to such incidents, making them an effective rapid-response measure in the event of a containment failure.
All active instances of SCP-8103 stationed at Foundation facilities are collectively designated as members of Mobile Task Force Iota-12 (“Rag Dolls”).
The Foundation has elected to retain this designation despite the fact that, technically speaking, none of the members of Iota-12 are mobile.
