Description

A periodic depiction of Prague, 1607.

SCP-609-CS is the designation for a man in foundation custody, claiming to be named Arnošt Vilém Zrno from Křezno and Dilma, and alleging himself to be a knight, qualified doctor, famous collector, artist, occultist and alchemist, among others. SCP-609-CS is under foundation custody from 3rd November 1947, when he was found confused wandering around the Prague castle, dressed in odd clothing resembling noble clothes from 16th century.

The anomalous capabilities of SCP-609-CS are composed of his ability to sense his surroundings on a molecular level. During testing, it was discovered that this ability is not fully conscious and that SCP-609-CS is always subconsciously capable of telling the exact composition of simple objects and compounds with perfect accuracy. In addition, SCP-609-CS insists on being born in 1575 and that he mistakenly traveled through time to the present, although much of his claims have no historical evidence1

During about 60 years in containment, SCP-609-CS was always without problems and willing to cooperate, although he suffers from psychological problems likely caused by his current condition, including depression, occasional hallucinations and early senile dementia.2 His historical views were considered, though much of the information regarding his person was not possible to verify. He is capable of fluently speaking Spanish, Italian, German, Old Czech and Latin, and otherwise has the knowledge of a new age scholar from the beginning of the 17th century.

I believe that Arnošt Vilém really was a time traveler. For the entire time I knew him, he did not convince for even a second that he wasn't. But I know that this discourse is held for more than 60 years and I don't think I can substantiate it by a simple statement. So I will tell you a story that this man once told me on the church bench.

It was the summer of 57, if my memories don't betray me. Arnošt came for me then, just like many times before. By that time, he didn't have too many problems with present czech, and so we didn't have to communicate in german. He told me, that he finally sorted out in his head what he never told anybody, fearing that we would consider him crazy.

He explained that in 1605, he was in the Prague court of king Rudolf II., where he met many influential and dubious people, and had the chance to be close to magical artifacts he couldn't dream of before. One of these artifacts, as he said, was a cursed djinn. I won't go into details, but the important thing is that Arnošt Vilém got into a situation where the entity cursed in the artifact offered him three wishes.

His first wish, as he told me, was to become the best alchemist in the lands. He later attributed his anomalous ability to this wish. The second wish he yearned for was the love of a girl, who he loved without bounds, though he never gave me her name, or the result of this wish. Before he told me about his third wish, we prayed together, perhaps because he felt guilty.

Arnošt didn't remember the exact wording of his third wish, maybe because he wasn't able to properly think in the moment from the happiness caused by the wishes, or maybe it was due to the later confusion. Anyways, his third wish was about several artifacts. He told me he wanted to know where magic comes from and where can he find more of it. He wanted to meet someone, who can help him find answers.

And then was sent through time and space to us and lost everything he knew. And he never reconciled with it.

I'm sorry I was never able to help him.
